Recommendations on this Sub & Spotify

Hello my usual 'look' is casual goth or casual black. Because it's been noted by others I look goth, I curiously researched goth on the internet & found out it's a music based subculture, so decided to delve further (even though I stopped listening to hard rock & pop music a long time ago because it all bored me to the point of irritation, so I just got rid of it) .Through Spotify YouTube & this Sub I have come across recommendations however that I like so much that I'm now listening to early recordings (first half of the 80's) of Sisters of Mercy every day. Can't get enough. Same with early Siouxsie & The Banshees but also more recent recordings by Ritual Howls (whose sound is very haunting).

However I feel disappointed when I click on links or look up recommendations that lead me to sounds of synth pop – for instance Black Marble; The Soft Moon, or sounds of what I consider 'new wave' – Asylum Party, and a lot of The Cure. There's even been metal or grunge type music listed – TypeO Negative, a lot of punk like The Birthday Party

Does synth pop, new wave, metal come into the goth scene in a big way, and if so what is the connection.

I hate all of that & don't get why those kinds of sounds are on goth playlists alongside music I do consider to sound gothic & enjoyable…early Sisters of Mercy, Altar deFey, 34 Vampires, Bauhaus' Bela Lagusi.

Had a “tiktok goth” brag about listening to staple bands to me and it wasn’t pleasant- a rant

I am still relatively new to goth in general but something that really annoys me with the recent subculture trends on social media is that people try too hard to get into them on the terms of looks but then only listen to a few bands that are considered mainstream in that community and use it to act like they’re "different" or "underground". They only care about the "aesthetic" and don’t want to be called posers but aren’t that much interested in the music itself .

That specific person acted shocked when I said I listened to The Cure, Bauhaus , TsOm ect even after two of our friends who aren’t goth at all said they knew all the bands.

I’ll admit it, in comparison to any elder goth my music taste is pretty basic.

They don’t seem to understand there is a difference between being new to a subculture and actually looking into it and bragging about a few things everyone in that community knows.

And obviously this doesnt work for just goth, it applies to a lot of other subcultures with grunge, metal genres especially lately ,ect
